Oh man, seeing someone's step by step tiktok process is SO helpful. I'm barely getting myself and my courage together enough to start emailing people and this is very encouraging.
Infinity pool in Ibiza! Would sitting at Oak St. Beach in Chicago, count? Love this interview and I love how you always clarify that it’s about creating interesting content on places like TikTok. Also, love the book cover.
That’s a ton of work to do on top of writing the novel itself. Some of us can’t do this. We just can’t because we do not have the time. What’s the alternative to this?
Thanks. The alternative to free labor (ie doing the hard work of building the audience to buy your books instead of the publishers doing it - which they should be doing) is to write in obscurity. Well, yes that’s what I’ve been doing for 20 years.
I’ll be writing a response to this soon because while I think you are sadly correct, this isn’t something any of us creatives should just accept without a huge fight.
Thanks for sharing! As another "Gossip Girl era millennial," I've been so hesitant to get on TikTok, but the idea of relationship-building is inspiring!
Ahh a joy to be on the stack!!! Thanks so much for everything Leigh

alternatively, you could write outside the market and not worry at all about building a brand/growing an audience/earning income from
creative writing!

Great interview! Excited to check out Emma's book.
I have been working on my TikTok presence and this gives me so much hope! Thank you for sharing!
This is a relief! I find new books and authors all the time - I’m never convinced popular = good
